Home – Kids at Chadstone
After their appointment, all children get a goodie bag with a balloon, stickers and drawing to colour in!
The oral health of children is affected by 2 main factors: Diet and hygiene.
Constant snacking is a no-no. Children need to have gaps between meals so they only eat 3 to 5 times a day. This reduces the amount of decay-causing acid in their mouths. Food and drinks which are high sugar, sticky or acidic damage teeth. Consumption between meals increases the risk of decay. This includes fruit, as it is sweet and acidic too. A simple measure is to have a drink of water or milk after consuming fruit.
As soon as teeth appear in your child’s mouth, they should be cleaned. For infants use a clean, damp soft cloth, then progress to a soft or extra-soft child’s toothbrush. Clean along the gumline twice a day.
As your child gets a bit older, continue brushing twice a day:
Once after breakfast
Once before bedtime ( from an early age, flossing before the evening brush is highly recommended). After brushing , only water should be consumed until breakfast.
Children should be helped to clean their teeth until six or seven years of age. A good rule of thumb is if they can tie their own shoelaces, they are ready to brush their own teeth.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.
Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
